Mind-Blowing Temperature Fraud At NOAA

Mind-Blowing Temperature Fraud At NOAA

The measured US temperature data from USHCN shows that the US is on a long-term cooling trend. But the reported temperatures from NOAA show a strong warming trend.
ScreenHunter_10009 Jul. 27 12.16
Measured : ushcn.tavg.latest.raw.tar.gz
Reported : ushcn.tavg.latest.FLs.52j.tar.gz
They accomplish this through a spectacular hockey stick of data tampering, which corrupts the US temperature trend by almost two degrees.
ScreenHunter_10008 Jul. 27 12.08
The biggest component of this fraud is making up data. Almost half of all reported US temperature data is now fake. They fill in missing rural data with urban data to create the appearance of non-existent US warming.
ScreenHunter_10010 Jul. 27 12.20
The depths of this fraud is breathtaking, but completely consistent with the fraudulent profession which has become known as “climate science”

Codevilla on the Trump phenomenon.

Posted on by Steven Hayward in 2016 presidential election, Donald Trump

Does Trump Trump? Angelo Codevilla on Our Present Moment

Angelo Codevilla is a former staff member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, professor emeritus of international relations at Boston University, and the author of more than a dozen fine books on politics, arms control, and intelligence (if I had to pick a favorite it might be The Character of Nations), including a fine translation of Machiavelli’s Prince published by Yale University Press. Most recently his essay-turned-book The Ruling Class: How They Corrupted America and What We Can Do About It caught the attention of Rush Limbaugh and many others. It argues that our fundamental political problem is not “big government,” but the creation of a ruling class, inhabiting both parties, that is steadily increasing its authoritarian control over the nation. In a conversation a few months ago Angelo remarked, “The 2016 election is simple; the person who runs on the platform ‘Who do they think they are?’ will win.”
It occurred to me that Trump is coming closest to this disposition, flaws and all, which explains why he has taken off. I asked Angelo for his thoughts, and he sends along the following, which ratifies the view that several of Trumps supposed “mistakes” are anything but, though you’ll see at the end Angelo’s final judgment:
Does Trump trump?
By Angelo M. Codevilla
“In the land of the blind,” so goes the saying, “the one-eyed man is king.” Donald Trump leapt atop other contenders for the Republican presidential nomination when he acted on the primordial fact in American public life today, from which most of the others hide their eyes, namely: most Americans distrust, fear, are sick and tired of, the elected, appointed, and bureaucratic officials who rule over us, as well as their cronies in the corporate, media, and academic world. Trump’s attraction lies less in his words’ grace or even precision than in the extent to which Americans are searching for someone, anyone, to lead against this ruling class, that is making America less prosperous, less free, and more dangerous.
Trump’s rise reminds this class’s members that they sit atop a rumbling volcano of rejection. Republicans and Democrats hope to exorcise its explosion by telling the public that Trump’s remarks on immigration and on the character of fellow member John McCain (without bothering to try showing that he errs on substance), place him outside the boundaries of their polite society. Thus do they throw Br’er Rabbit into the proverbial briar patch. Now what? The continued rise in Trump’s poll numbers reminds all that Ross Perot – in an era that was far more tolerant of the Establishment than is ours – outdistanced both Bush 41 and Bill Clinton before self-destructing, just by speaking ill of both parties before he self destructed.
Republicans brahmins have the greater reason to fear. Whereas some three fifths of Democratic voters approve the conduct of their officials, only about one fifth of Republican voters approve what theirs do. If Americans in general are primed for revolt, Republican (and independent) voters fairly thirst for it.
Trump’s barest hints about what he opposes (never mind proposes) regarding just a few items on the public agenda have had such effect because they accord with what the public has already concluded about them. For example,Trump remarked, off the cuff, that “Mexico does not send us its best.” The public had long since decided that our ruling class’s handling of immigration (not just from Mexico) has done us harm. The ruling class – officials, corporations, etc.- booed with generalities but did not try to argue that they had improved America by their handling of immigration. The more they would argue that, the more they would lose. At least if someone more able than Trump were leading against them.
Our ruling class was sure that Trump had discredited himself  by saying that John McCain, whom they treat as an icon, is not an optimal personification of heroism regardless of what suffering he endured in captivity. But they were mistaken. Because Americans are sick of celebrating victims of defeats, and naturally eager to enjoy the kind of peace that only victories can bring, Trump’s expressed preference for heroes who “don’t get captured” resonated. Trump may or may not know any of the unsavory details about McCain’s actions as a POW and, as a public official, in regard to POWs and MIAs. But it does not take much research to find out why nobody will defend him other than by trying to prevent discussion those details. Surely Republican “architect” Karl Rove, who organized South Carolina’s military vote against McCain in the 2000 primary, knows them. The families of Vietnam POWs-MIAs pour onto anyone who will listen to their bitterness at McCain’s role in denying the existence of abandoned POWs and sealing information about them. The general public can get a glimpse such things by Googling the armed forces’ newspaper Stars and Stripes, Friday June 6, 1969, or the work of Pulitzer Prize NYT reporter Sydney Schanberg.
Moreover, Americans are becoming increasingly skeptical about their celebrities’ integrity. With good reason.
McCain is just a minor example of a phenomenon that characterizes our ruling class: reputations built on lies and cover-ups, lives of myth protected by mutual forbearance, by complicitous journalists, or by records deep-sixed, including in in government archives. Ever wonder, for example, why the establishment of Martin Luther King as a national icon superior to George Washington, as the only American with his own national holiday, was accompanied by sealing government records about him for seventy five years? Because those records reflect well on him and his partisans? Sure. Countless other figures – need one mention Barack Obama? – live by images sustained by denigrating questions about their factual bases while restricting access to those bases. As they lord it over us, they live lives that cannot stand scrutiny.
The point here is simple: our ruling class has succeeded in ruling not by reason or persuasion, never mind integrity, but by occupying society’s commanding heights, by imposing itself and its ever-changing appetites on the rest of us. It has coopted or intimidated potential opponents by denying the legitimacy of opposition. Donald Trump, haplessness and clownishness notwithstanding, has shown how easily this regime may be threatened just by refusing to be intimidated.
Having failed to destroy Trump, Republicans and Democrats are left to hope that he will self-destruct as Perot did. Indeed, Trump has hardly scratched the surface and may not be able to do more than that. Yet our rulers know the list of things divide them from the American people is long. They want to avoid like the plague any and all arguments on the substance of those things. They fear the rise of an un-intimidated leader more graceful and precise than Trump, someone whose vision is fuller but who is even more passionate in championing the many resentments the voicing of just a few channeled so much support to Trump.
Here are some examples: Justice Kennedy’s majority opinions in Windsor and Obergefell preemptively accused anyone who opposed redefining marriage to include homosexuals of being “offensive,” “hateful.” Refusal to honor homosexual unions, he wrote, is not “explicable by anything except animus.” What if a statesman, speaking for the American people, were to ask what, precisely, is so honorable about anal intercourse that those who refuse to honor it should be so stigmatized? Before 1961, all 50 states criminalized anal intercourse, heterosexual as well as homosexual. Why precisely were they wrong in doing so? By what right does anyone place such questions “out of bounds”?
After a video showing officials of federally-funded Planned Parenthood taking orders for body parts of babies to be custom-slaughtered for that purpose, House Speaker John Boehner deflected demands for legislation to stop this by saying he needed more information. An unintimidated statesman might ask: Do you not know that each of these little ones’ DNA shows him or her to be an individual son or daughter of an individual mother and father? Like Lincoln, he would argue that no one has the right to exclude any other human from the human race and demand that Boehner answer why he continues to sanction so to dispose of millions of little sons and daughters?
Republicans and Democrats profit personally and through their corporate cronies by a welter of legislation and regulation by which they command what we must eat, how to shower, what medical care is proper and what is not: mandating that a third of the U.S. corn crop be turned into ethanol, restricting the use of coal, how we may use our land, etc.  They justify these predatory intrusions into our lives by claiming that peculiar knowledge of science unavailable to others. They refuse to justify their scientific conclusions with the likes of us. An un-intimidated statesman, reiterating that science is reason, public reason, not pretense, would throw the notion that “science R us” back into their faces.
At increasing speed, our ruling class has created “protected classes” of Americans defined by race, sex, age, disability, origin, religion, and now homosexuality, whose members have privileges that outsider do not. By so doing, they have shattered the principle of equality – the bedrock of the rule of law. Ruling class insiders use these officious classifications to harass their socio-political opponents. An unintimidated statesman would ask: Why should not all “classes” be equally protected? Does the rule of law even admit of “classes”? Does not the 14th amendment promise “the equal protection of the laws” to all alike? He would note that when the government sets aside written law in favor of what the powerful want, it thereby absolves citizens any obligation to obey government.
Habitually, our ruling class tries to intimidate its opponents by calling them “haters” (“racists,” etc. is part of the all too familiar litany.) A statesman worthy of the title would respond that calling people such names is the very opposite of civility, never mind love. Such a leader would trump our rulers.
Donald Trump is not such a person.

AJ adds: There is one candidate (Sen Cruz) that would fit the requirement of what Codevilla wants, but Cruz is being ignored - which is the other method the Elites use to sideline someone.

The Trump phenomnenon.

Frankly, Donald Trump is NOT my first choice for President. But I may end up voting for him in the primary. Why?

The GOP has been intimidated by the Media. And the GOP has caved in to Obama. You can see why. You oppose the Obama regime or its efforts to destroy America and the Liberal hive is after you. Trump speaks up regardless.

I can see why the Liberals hate Trump but some Republicans?

People appreciate Trump speaking up against importing criminals from South of the border (just in Texas we have 170,000 convicted felons who are here illegally).

Are we worried about how the Hispanics will react and vote? Then level with them! You came here from Mexico, Honduras and Guatemala. If you vote for the Democrats, they will make this country into a Mexico or a Guatemala.

The Media revs up the outrage machine to attack Trump.

Fact Check: The Washington Post on Donald Trump and John McCain

Donald_Trump_March_2015
[Above image: Republican Presidential Candidate Donald Trump at the 2015 Conservative Political Action Conference]
Donald Trump appears to have gotten under the skin of not only Democrats, but also fellow Republicans and the news media. Has that subjected Trump, a Republican presidential candidate, to unfair and/or inaccurate reporting?
An article in the Washington Post today is headlined, “Trump slams McCain for being ‘captured’ in Vietnam.”

The article’s lead sentence states, “Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump slammed Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), a decorated Vietnam War veteran, on Saturday by saying McCain was not a war hero because he was captured by the North Vietnamese [emphasis added].”
Is this report accurate?
In fact, Trump’s actual quote is the opposite of what is presented in the Post’s first sentence.
Discussion
1. The Post did not provide context at the outset disclosing that McCain and Trump have been feuding, with McCain characterizing some Trump supporters as “crazies” and Trump stating that McCain graduated last in his class in Annapolis. The charged rhetoric continued at the conservative Family Leadership Summit in Ames, Iowa this weekend.
2. When a panelist characterized McCain as a “war hero,” the Post is accurate in reporting that Trump initially said McCain is “not a war hero.” But then, Trump immediately modified his statement saying– four times– that McCain is a war hero:
“He is a war hero.”
“He’s a war hero because he was captured.”
“He’s a war hero, because he was captured.”
“I believe, perhaps, he’s a war hero. But right now, he’s said some very bad things about a lot of people.”
3. Did Trump say McCain is not a war hero because he was captured? No, not in the exchanges represented in the Post.
4. Is the Post’s characterization an accident? It would appear not, because it is repeated in the Post’s caption of the video clip, which also states: “Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.), a decorated Vietnam war veteran, was not a war hero because he was captured by the North Vietnamese [emphasis added].”
Further, in the Post’s second sentence, Trump is quoted as stating of McCain, “He’s not a war hero…He’s a war hero because he was captured,” but the article selectively left out the phrase Trump had uttered in between: “He is a war hero.”

Conclusion
Trump actually said the opposite of what the Post lead sentence and video caption claim. The Post might have been able to get away stating that Trump “implied” McCain was not a war hero because McCain was captured, but even that would have been a subjective interpretation since Trump had actually stated the opposite.
It’s true that Trump stated one time that McCain is not a war hero. But Trump stated four times that McCain is a war hero–and that was not accurately characterized in the article.
For interpreting and characterizing Trump’s true quote in a way that is at best questionable, and for selectively using some quotes and leaving others out, the Post receives Two Little Devils. (Ratings scale at end of article.)

Obviously, all are free to draw conclusions about any candidate or politician. But the news media has a responsibility to do its best to report accurately and fairly–even when reporters find a candidate and/or his positions to be personally distasteful.

The great Chinese headfake on gold.

Financial experts have been waiting for the report from China on how much gold the country has. It came out this week. The Peoples Bank of China is allegedly owns 1,658 tons of gold. Not only that, but they claim to have acquired only 600 tons of gold and all in the month of June this year.

The report is a traditional act of deception of the Lao Tsu type.

Why the deception? The Chinese Yuan is up for inclusion in the basket of currencies the IMF is considering as the Reserve Currency of the world. The Chinese want to alleviate fears that they will control the world's finances.

Gold experts on KWN tell us that China's other banks own thousands of tons of gold which is not reported as owned by the PBOC. How much? Well, between 15,000 and 30,000 tons. Thus,  the Chinese are positioning themselves to gain a tremendous lot once gold is revalued. What will the final price of gold be after revaluation? We can not know for sure, but people talk about between $5,000 to $50,000/oz, the $5,000 value is Larry's.

Revaluation of the price of gold will complete the transfer of wealth from the West to the East. Remember that manufacturing has already been transferred.

The Left feels content because they believe that America has grown rich at the expense of the world, so transferring that wealth to China is just fair.

Economist Davidson warns of 50% correction coming.

Davidson’s warning is the most alarming of all his peers.
Not just because he makes the strongest case for a collapse (he uses over 20 unquestionable charts to prove his point), but also because Davidson has a remarkable track record of calling every major economic shift over the last three decades. For example, Davidson predicted the collapse of 1999 and 2007, along with the fall of the Soviet Union and Japan’s economic downfall, to name just a few.

His predictions are so accurate, he’s been invited to shake hands and counsel the likes of former presidents Ronald Reagan and Bill Clinton — and he’s had the good fortune to befriend and convene with George Bush Sr., Steve Forbes, Donald Trump, Margaret Thatcher, Sir Roger Douglas and even Boris Yeltsin.
Hence, if Davidson calls for a 50% market correction, one should pay heed.

Davidson goes on to say, “I know that everywhere you turn things look pretty good. The market is near all-time highs, the dollar is strong, and real estate is booming again. But remember, the exact same scenario played out in 1999 and 2007. The economy is unraveling right now, and fast. Very fast.”
However, it’s not just a 50% stock market collapse that Davidson is warning about. He also predicts that “real estate will plummet by 40%, savings accounts will lose 30%, and unemployment will triple.”

Democrats pad their numbers throgh illegals.

by Ian Smith July 16, 2015 4:00 PM There’s no mystery about why Democrats resist enforcing our immigration laws. A new “sanctuary cities” map from the Center for Immigration Studies goes a long way toward explaining why open-borders Democrats are so addicted to flouting our immigration laws. When you consider the political makeup of the cities, counties, and states where illegal aliens are welcomed, you start to suspect that the liberal elite in San Francisco and elsewhere aren’t interested only in cheap nannies and gardeners. For them, pulling in more illegal aliens is, perhaps first and foremost, about pumping up their political power. The Census Bureau includes aliens (both legal and illegal) in the statistics used to apportion our 435 congressional districts. This has the perverse effect of helping states with bigger immigrant populations to inflate both their representation in Congress and the number of Electoral College votes they are allotted (the latter is a function of the former). Just through their illegal-alien numbers, the states of New York, New Jersey, California, Florida, and Illinois, which all went for Obama in 2012, received eight additional congressional seats in the last reapportionment, with over half of those gains coming from their sanctuary cities and counties. It’s clear, then, why Democrats resist enforcing our immigration laws: More bodies mean more power. RELATED: Democrats’ Deadly Sanctuary It is estimated that fully half of America’s 41 million immigrants have settled in just five metropolitan areas: New York City–Newark, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, and San Francisco–Oakland. According to data from the Center for Immigration Studies, every one of these cities and their surrounding counties has sanctuary policies of some kind. Considering the illegal-alien pull factor of these policies, which Kate Steinle’s murderer admitted to, it’s unsurprising that the immigrant populations of these sanctuary cities includes many who are here illegally. Data from the Migration Policy Institute show that 3.2 million of the nation’s 11 million illegal aliens reside in just 19 counties that include the sanctuary cities of the deep-blue states listed in the previous paragraph. Furthermore, because these estimates are based on Census Bureau mail-in forms, which some commentators believe illegal aliens are on average less willing to return, they likely undercount the true level of illegal aliens in these counties. After the 1910 census, when the U.S. population was 92 million, Congress capped the number of House seats at 435. The immigrant population has since exploded, especially after the passage of the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965, heavily promoted by Ted Kennedy. Today, average representation in the House is around one representative per 700,000. By comparison, the lower chambers in Canada, Britain, France, and Germany have around one representative per 90,000. It’s not surprising that California flipped from red to blue after the U.S. adopted an open-borders policy. The immigrants we’ve let in since the late Sixties are largely Hispanic, and ever since the 1980 election, when we started tracking their voting figures, Hispanics have reliably voted heavily Democratic. Considering, then, that California has two of the five main areas immigrants end up settling in (Los Angeles and San Francisco–Oakland), it’s not surprising that the state flipped from red to blue after the U.S. adopted an open-borders policy. (California has just enacted a statewide sanctuary policy, although it is weaker than San Francisco’s.) But on top of up-ending states politically, open-borders and sanctuary policies also make those states more powerful. Neither San Francisco County nor four of the counties surrounding it (Santa Cruz, Santa Clara, San Mateo, and Contra Costa) enforce Secure Communities, a federal program that requires sheriffs to cooperate with immigration authorities when they’re asked to hold aliens for pickup. Together, these five counties account for over 330,000 illegal aliens, or half a congressional seat — or Electoral College vote. That may not seem like much, but as we know from the Bush–Gore election, one Electoral College vote can determine the outcome of an election. And if those five counties are taken together with Los Angeles County and two of its neighbors, Orange and Riverside Counties, their combined illegal-alien population accounts for almost three congressional seats. RELATED: Thousands of Criminal Immigrants Were Set Free by ‘Sanctuary Cities’ Last Year And if you look at the entire illegal-alien populations of the top immigration states, New York, New Jersey, California, Florida, and Illinois (I’ve excluded the Republican stronghold of Texas), together these states are given a full eight additional representatives in Congress. If the Obama administration actually compelled these states to enforce our immigration laws, would they have such outsized representation? More fundamentally, eight Electoral College votes could make a difference in a close election. More Immigration Puerto Rico’s Debt Crisis Could Be Bad News for the GOP in 2016 Illegal-Immigrant Sex Offenders Not Added to National Registries Trump’s Lesson: Voters Are Furious about Illegal Immigration Naked self-interest has surrounded our apportionment system ever since it was revised by the Fourteenth Amendment. In a law-review article about the debates over the apportionment clause in that amendment, Patrick Charles, a former analyst with the Immigration Reform Law Institute, describes how Congressman Roscoe Conkling from the big-immigration state of New York lobbied hard for a broader apportionment base because, as Conkling said, the estimated “unnaturalized foreigners” in his state contributed “three Representatives and a fraction of a fourth.” For the mostly Democratic sanctuary cities, counties, and states to start enforcing our immigration laws, they would have to surrender a sizable amount of power, an unlikely prospect. The GOP could try to pass legislation requiring that the Census Bureau collect information about citizenship and residency status, which Senator David Vitter of Louisiana tried to do in 2009; this would provide a dataset that could be used to remove illegal aliens from the apportionment base. But of course the Democrats would fight it tooth and nail. Unsurprisingly, of the 50 congressional districts covered by the 19 sanctuary counties mentioned above, 47 are held by Democrats. Many of these representatives would surely be put out of work if illegal aliens were removed from the apportionment base and the sanctuary magnet was turned off. But if our immigration laws continue to be evaded, finding sanctuary from open-borders Democrats will only get harder and harder. — Ian Smith is an attorney and works for the Immigration Reform Law Institute. Cancer: the CAR T technology.

CAR T is an adoptive cell transfer therapy. In short, doctors remove immune cells from a patient’s body, reengineer them to attack cancer, and then reinsert them in the patient.

The immune cells that doctors collect in CAR T therapy are called T cells. They take the T cells from the patient’s blood. Then, they genetically modify the T cells to produce special receptors on their surface…

These special receptors are called chimeric antigen receptors (CARs). CARs are proteins that allow the T cells to recognize a specific protein (called an antigen) on tumor cells.

Doctors grow the engineered CAR T cells in a lab. Then they infuse the cells into the patient.

If everything works right, the CAR T cells multiply in the patient’s body. And, thanks to the engineered receptor, they recognize and kill cancer cells that have the antigen on their surfaces.

Doctors can engineer CAR T cells to recognize any antigen. But researchers look for antigens that are common on cancer cells but rare on normal cells. Then they let the engineered T cells do their thing.

The science is difficult, but the idea is simple. And it works…

A recent article in the New England Journal of Medicine published the results of a Phase 1 trial using CAR T cell therapy in relapsed acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

ALL is extremely difficult to treat if it comes back after chemotherapy. With traditional treatments, these patients have less than a 10% chance of going into remission. In this trial, however, 90% of the 30 patients went into complete remission

And the results lasted. Nearly 70% had no further signs of cancer after six months.

Cancer experts don’t throw around the word “cure” much. But many of the patients who received CAR T cell therapy are basically considered cured.

Comment on the 'extend and pretend' game.

Sorry I could not include my comment in the previous post. Residual formatting remained that I could not get rid of.

Social democracy in Europe is not a resounding success with the exception of Germany. This is not the post to dissect why this is so.

Greece had gone way beyond social democracy and accumulated sins over the years that are difficult to kick. Government ownership of too many businesses, pension plans that can not be paid for, cronyism, featherbedding, welfare cheating, tax evasion - in short, letting political pull dominate business decisions.

Greece pretended that is corrupt Socialism worked and it went broke. Then they pretended to fix the problems, but they did not. Now they are treated as naughty children who must be supervised and closely. Will it work? Still too early to tell.

Ukraine is not far beyond in crashing. Croniism, corruption, state-run enterprises and even the emblems of the Socialist past haunt the Ukraine. Inept leadership tried to foment anti-Russian feelings (a task that's easy in Eastern Europe) that led to the loss of Crimea and an insurrection in the East that has devastated the industrial Donbass. And like Greece, the Western powers are eager to lend them money, digging the financial hole deeper.

News from the Tour de France

Why Are There So Many Crashes in the 2015 Tour de France?

Blame the race organizers and the intense competition

This year’s Tour de France is starting to look more like a bumper-car rink gone wrong than a bike race. Of the four riders who have worn the maillot jaune during the first seven days of the 2015 Tour, two of them have crashed out of the race.
On Stage 6, time trial World Champion Tony Martin went down after a touch of wheels with a Europcar racer in the final run-in to Le Havre. Though Martin was able to remount his bike and finish the stage, his collarbone was shattered into such a jigsaw of pieces that he had no choice but to withdraw and head home to Germany for surgery. Also brought down in the melee were overall contenders Chris Froome, Nairo Quintana, and Tejay van Garderen, though all three avoided major injury.

Three days prior, Fabian Cancellara relinquished race leadership after a horrifying 20-man pile-up that looked like a game of pick-up sticks hit by a tornado. The Swiss strongman lived up to his nickname, Spartacus, by riding another 65 kilometers to the finish, but threw in the jersey after X-rays revealed fractures to two vertebrae in his low back. The crash forced five other racers, including Best Young Rider Tom Dumoulin, out of the race with injuries. And a second, resulting crash just 500 meters later caused even more chaos.

It’s not only the leaders who are tumbling like bowling pins. Stage 5, a wet and windy affair from Arras to Amiens, made whole sections of the best pros in the world look like toddlers pedaling on a Slip’N Slide. Among the wounded was Cofidis sprinter and French National Champ Nacer Bouhani, who abandoned the Tour after an early fall left him with broken ribs, and Cannondale-Garmin’s Kiwi Jack Bauer, who fractured his femur in a separate fall. In total, 12 riders have so far retired from the Tour because of injuries, while the rest of the peloton is more bandaged and bloodied than the cast on Walking Dead.

So what’s with all the crashes this year?
“It's getting worse every year. But that’s been the trend,” says Jonathan Vaughters, sport director at Cannondale-Garmin. He says the ever-increasing stakes at the Tour, with more and more riders targeting the GC, is largely to blame. “The primary cause is just higher and higher pressure on the riders to perform at the Tour. No one uses their brakes, even in dangerous situations.”
This year, four favorites are battling it out for the overall: Chris Froome, Alberto Contador, Vincenzo Nibali, and Nairo Quintana. And a host of secondary contenders, including Cannondale’s Andrew Talansky and BMC’s Tejay van Garderen, are also in the mix. According to Quintana, no fewer than 10 racers could take the win in Paris. And that means that every team with an aspiring winner is trying to place themselves and their team leader at the front of the peloton. Given the winding, narrow roads, there’s simply not enough room for everyone at the front. Add in the wind and rain that have lashed the course on several stages, and you have a recipe for mass crashes.

Tour organizers have also exacerbated the issue by shortening early stages and adding in Classics-style courses, including passages of cobbles on Stage 4 and Stage 3’s sharp finishing climb up the Mur de Huy, which features at the finish of La Flèche Wallonne every spring. The idea is to add drama for TV viewers and hopefully prevent one team from putting on the maillot jaune and controlling the race for the entirety of the three weeks.

And according to Team Sky director David Brailsord, it’s working. “'It's exactly what the organizers wanted and the weather turned up on cue and created the suspense and excitement that they were hoping for and I'm sure it's pretty exciting to watch but a bit nervous for us,” he told the DailyMail.
Racers should hopefully get some reprieve from all the jockeying after Sunday’s team time trial, which will likely thin the pack of GC contenders. Once there are only a few favorites left, there will be less pressure at the head of the race. In the mean time, everyone will be hoping to keep their riders upright through the next two stages and healthy into Monday’s first rest day.

AJ adds: This year it will be an even bigger feat to finish the Tour, let alone get on the podium.

Greece: the extend and pretend game.

Eurozone leaders struck a conditional deal with Greece early Monday that would keep the country in the currency union, but at a steep price for a government that just days ago won a mandate from Greek citizens to stand firm.
Greece's third bailout, worth 86 billion euros ($95 billion), will require that it enact tough measures, including reforms of the pension and tax systems, budget cuts, and privatization of many of its assets. It must also be approved by the Greek parliament and some of its measures written into law by Wednesday.
"The agreement was laborious, but it has been concluded. There is no Grexit," European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker told reporters.
The outlines agreed to Monday could take several weeks to finalize, and there are still risks that negotiations might break down. Several countries, including Germany, need parliamentary approval just to begin those talks.
Eurozone officials on Monday were discussing bridge financing that would carry Greece through its next important deadline, a July 20 repayment of about 3.5 billion euros ($3.85 billion) to the European Central Bank.
European stock markets rallied. In the U.S., the S&P 500 rose 1.1%.
Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras must now convince his country's lawmakers to back a program that's far more austere than the one citizens soundly defeated in a July 5 referendum. While Greek citizens -- and some European leaders -- decried what they called a "humiliation," Tsipras said he was satisfied that he had "averted ... financial strangulation."
Referendum Backfired
That referendum, which Tsipras called with no warning to his eurozone counterparts, took them by surprise just as an agreement appeared to be in sight. Greek banks were forced to close, and will need massive recapitalization and restructuring when they do reopen.
That breach of trust -- as well as the economy's free fall since the referendum was called -- prompted creditors' tougher terms this weekend, said Jacob Funk Kirkegaard, a senior fellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics. Many eurozone countries "didn't want to pay for the damage done" by Tsipras' politics, he said.
It also meant that creditors entered negotiations with a so-called Grexit, or Greek exit, truly on the table for the first time -- a scenario that would clearly be far worse for Greece than the rest of the monetary union. "It was: sign on the dotted line or chaos," Kirkegaard said.
Kirkegaard calls himself "cautiously optimistic" that the deal will be finalized. Greece's parliament is likely to sign on, he said, and it's possible that the ruling Syriza party will split and a national unity party be formed, with Tsipras at the helm.
But bigger questions about Greece's future -- and that of the entire European project -- remain.
A "good outcome" from the past weeks' drama might be that "Greeks learn the hard way by having no banking system and their economy suffering a big shock, making believers out of the politicians, and bringing us to an inflection point," said David Kotok, chairman of Cumberland Advisors. But that would require major cultural changes.
"In my opinion, that is a very hard thing to accomplish," Kotok said. It's more likely that this deal is just another step in a long back-and-forth between the eurozone and a member that has so far refused to play by a rule book that's existed for barely two decades, Kotok said.
He calls the process "extend and pretend," and says serious questions remain about next steps, no matter what political leaders agree to. For example, it's not clear that private depositors will have any faith in the Greek banking system even if it is recapitalized. And the question of "moral hazard" among other peripheral countries will dog the ECB.
'More Economically Sensible'
But Kirkegaard thinks Tsipras actually may have done better than might be immediately apparent. The new package "is more economically sensible than previously," he said, because it puts more emphasis on long-term structural reforms that Greece desperately needs, and less on short-term fiscal targets that would be impossible to meet.
The deal does not include the debt relief Greece wanted, but commits to discussing it later.
The fact that political leaders were willing to boot one member even as the ECB has declared the euro "irreversible" may even lead to a strengthening of the union, Kirkegaard said.

Greece: tragedy, comedy or tragycomedy?

First, Greeks voted to opt out of the bailout process. Then negotiations were on until the negotiators walked out. Then they came back and now there is an agreement.

But, but, but! Is there really an agreement?

On one side, the Greek Parliament has to agree to conditions they specifically said they could not accept - conditions that were voted down in a referendum. On the other side, Finland and Germany have to agree and accept the idea that the Greeks really mean it this time. Then there are the facts on the ground. Greek banks are insolvent and the Greek economy is devastated. Greece can not pay its debts. The proposed bailout would add another $100B debt to Greece's $350B debt. We may be pardoned if we are skeptical that it will work.

Control of T cells

Stimulatory And Inhibitory Factors Involved In The Cancer Immunity Cycle1,3

Stimulatory Factors

Inhibitors
*Focus of research by Genentech and Roche.
Image of different pathways that are involved at each step of the cancer immunity cycle

Molecular Medicine. Cancer cure in sight.

As the molecular mechanisms of various diseases are being unraveled, cures for these diseases are being discovered and put in use. Perhaps the most exciting (and potentially useful) of the coming cures is the use of the immune system to fight viral diseases and cancer.

Using immunology to PREVENT infection.
Using immunization to prevent infection has been around quite a while. However,  certain viruses and even infectious bacteria had escaped this method for one reason or another. These diseases are now being targeted by the newer uses and techniques of immunology. There have been several methodological breakthroughs responsible for these advances:

1. easier and quicker sequencing of specific proteins (such as viral coat proteins) .
2. easier and quicker methods of producing the DNA sequence coding for such proteins.
3. production of plasmids that contain the code for all or part of the DNA that codes for such proteins.
4. introduction of the pure DNA by electroporation. This method does away with the side effects of vaccination.

This type of use of immunology to prevent infection is PREVENTIVE.

Using immunology to FIGHT infection.
Once infection sets in, it can be fought by injecting monoclonal antibodies against the causative agent. A couple of American Ebola victims were cured by giving them (injecting them) with antibodies. However, monoclonal antibodies are not cheap. Far easier and cheaper is the preparation of DNA plasmids that code for the specific antibody.

Inovio, for example, is working on a serum to immunize against Ebola (it is in P1 now) as well as working on preparing a DNA plasmid that codes for an antibody that neutralizes the Ebola virus. Such a DNA is called a dMAB.

Using immunology to fight cancer.
There is no doubt that fighting tropical disease (Ebola, chicungunya and malaria) will be an important contribution to the health of people of the tropics. Inovio does have a P1 human study for Ebola and has the plasmids for chicungunya and malaria, but will  not do studies for the latter two unless government steps in with financing as it did for Ebola.

Fighting cancer is another matter. Inovio has three types of studies, which reflect the state of art in fighting cancer with immunology. The principal in using immunology for this purpose is to find a protein that is unique to the cancer cell(a marker) and attack it with killer T-cells.

1. One such marker is the Human Papillary Virus or HPV. Inovio has finished a P2 study against cervical pre-cancer. The electroporated DNA led to the regression of the disease in 49% of patients (vs 30% in controls) and got rid of the virus in 40% vs 14% in controls. P1 studies are under way using the same DNA plasmids to treat head, neck and aerodigestive cancers (all caused by HPV).

2. Using Human Reverse Transcriptase(hTERT) as a marker. hTERT appears in 85% of human cancers and Inovio has a P1 study with breast, lung and pancreatic cancers.

3. Using the control of the killer  T cells as a marker.

Killer T cells are highly regulated both to activate them and to inactivate them. There are two important points to be made here:1. normally, the T cells are not turned on to avoid autoimmune disease. This precludes immunizing the T cell against inhibition. 2. When inhibition is released, therefore, it needs to be done on a temporary basis. Thus, the choice is either an organic compound or a monoclonal antibody. Both disappear rather quickly.

The control of the action of T cells.

Some of this control is achieved through the PD1 pathway. PD1 is the Programmed Cell Death protein. It is coded for by the PDCD1 gene. PD1 is an IgV protein. It has a part that is extracellular, another part that is anchored in the cell membrane and a third part that is an intracellular part that has two phosphorylation sites on it. PD1 promotes apoptosis (cell death) in antigen-specific T cells in the lymph nodes while reducing apoptosis in regulatory T cells. Thus, PD1 is an immune check point, where removal of own cells is inhibited and this prevents auto immunity.

Cancer cells evade removal from the body by overexpressing a couple ligands (PDL-1 and PDL-2) which turn off PD1. Bristol Mers has an antibody drug (Nivolumab) that inhibits PDL-1. Treatment with this gave good results in a P2 study in non-small-cell lung cancer, melanoma and renal cell cancer, but not colon and pancreatic cancer. Merck used its own checkpoint inhibitor in melanoma, lymphoma and mesothelioma.

Inovio has the dMAB plasmids against both PD1 and PDL-1 and was just awarded a patent for it.
Finally, Inovio has a P1 study against cervical cancer where the anti-HPV plasmid is fortified with an HL-12 T-cell stimulator.

Here is a schematic of the PDL-1 pathway.
PD-L1 binds to 2 receptors: B7.1 AND PD-13

Illegal alien crime is staggering in scope and savagery.

Trump is Right: Illegal Alien Crime is Staggering in Scope and Savagery

by FSM NATIONAL SECURITY TEAM July 10, 2015
donald-trump 2016
FSM EXCLUSIVE
Non-Americans commit over five times more serious crimes per capita than Americans.
It is estimated that there are some 133,741 foreign criminals in prisons and jails in the USA (1).  They are not there for spitting on the sidewalk or jaywalking, and very few are there for immigration violations, as those illegal alien criminals are typically deported in fairly short order or simply let go as we have seen time and time again. They are there in large part for molesting, raping, killing, maiming and murdering people in America, as you will see below.
Add in the 168,680 convicted criminal immigrants who have final orders of removal but who remain at large in the U.S., and another 179,018 convicted criminal aliens with deportation cases pending but who are also at large (2), and we have a total non-American felon population of 481,439...a number the size of our 35th largest city, Sacramento, California, and larger than the entire populations each of Atlanta, Kansas City, Omaha, Miami, Minneapolis - and more.
And remember, for most of these felons, there was a victim.
Looking at it another way, illegal aliens constitute 27% of the federal prison population (3). This means that a group which comprises less than 5% of the population nationally is committing 27% percent of the federal crimes.  So just by that metric alone, illegal aliens commit over five times more serious crimes on a per capita basis than residents do.
But here's another fact.  According to the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) in an April 7, 2005 report to Congress entitled "Information on Criminal Aliens Incarcerated in Federal and State Prisons and Local Jails", "The percentage of all federal prisoners who are criminal aliens has remained the same over the last 3 years--about 27 percent. * The majority of criminal aliens incarcerated at the end of calendar year 2004 were identified as citizens of Mexico."  Sorry to report the truth here, but quite a few people owe Mr. Trump an apology.
That doesn't even include all the other criminal aliens that the government desperately tries to hide from the public even though they must announce it: according to Jessica M. Vaughan, Director of Policy Studies at the Center for Immigration Studies, the 36,007 criminal immigrants that the Obama administration released in 2013 to prowl the streets of America even though they had a collective 88,000 convictions, including 193 homicides, 426 sexual assaults, 303 kidnappings and 1,075 aggravated assaults. And that was just one year's worth of criminal illegal aliens let go to continue to prey on the citizens of the USA.
In 2014, in a cynical move that can only be described as depraved especially because Mr. Obama ‘s most important job is to protect  Americans, the Obama administration released another 30,558 criminal immigrants, who had a total of 79,059 convictions, into America to mingle with its unsuspecting, innocent, law-abiding citizens.  Someone ought to tell the man what his job is.
The following are just a few of the victims of illegal aliens in the USA.  We are warning you now, gird your loins to read these news reports, as the descriptions of the crimes are horrifying.

So...don't ever allow another opponent of Donald Trump's to accuse him of saying untrue or racist things about illegals who commit horrific crimes against Americans.  Mr. Trump was 100% correct, and the very dismaying facts back him up.
* The most recent data, from  a FY 2014 USSC report, shows illegal immigrants represented 36.7 percent of federal sentences, so numbers listed in this article, if anything, understate the problem which continues to grow.

Here is the news as a poem.

And here is a brief Summary of the news of last week:

                                The TV goes on.

Seven o'clock in the morning, the TV goes on

What was done by bloody ISIS and the Taliban?

What is the news in the Country, where is all the drama?

Are we still a great Republic, or have we King Obama?

And the Supremes up in DC, have they yet decided

If a man can marry his dog and lie down beside it?

Does the GOP still stand tall or has it got the crumbles

As they're misled by the Boner and Senator McMumbles?

Now that Hillary's running does Bill get the dough

What difference does this all make, the question is a bore.

Are the Greeks negotiating the latest EU deal

That wrecks their economy and their deposits steal?

How about our trade bill, do we get to know

What's in it before it passes, besides all the snow?

And the Country, what's the climate, what's with all the rain

If he gets a Nobel Peace Prize will he arm Ukraine?

These are all the essentials covered in the news

Except that Iran is waiting till it gets the nukes.

This was an exceptional week if you are a fag,

And the bonus is the lowering of the Confederate flag.

The news unrolls and it goes on and on and on and on

Even Old Glory is not safe from the likes of Farrakhan.

It's not that I expect less than total Leftist hate

But I am surprised the GOP accepts our fate.

Here we go: mini ice age predicted.

Is a mini ICE AGE on the way? Scientists warn the sun will 'go to sleep' in 2030 and could cause temperatures to plummet

  • New study claims to have cracked predicting solar cycles
  • Says that between 2030 and 2040 solar cycles will cancel each other out
  • Could lead to 'Maunder minimum' effect that saw River Thames freeze over

The Earth could be headed for a 'mini ice age' researchers have warned.
A new study claims to have cracked predicting solar cycles - and says that between 2020 and 2030 solar cycles will cancel each other out.
This, they say, will lead to a phenomenon known as the 'Maunder minimum' - which has previously been known as a mini ice age when it hit between 1646 and 1715, even causing London's River Thames to freeze over.

THE SOLAR CYCLE

Conventional wisdom holds that solar activity swings back and forth like a simple pendulum.
At one end of the cycle, there is a quiet time with few sunspots and flares.
At the other end, solar max brings high sunspot numbers and frequent solar storms.
It's a regular rhythm that repeats every 11 years.
Reality is more complicated.
Astronomers have been counting sunspots for centuries, and they have seen that the solar cycle is not perfectly regular.
The new model of the Sun's solar cycle is producing unprecedentedly accurate predictions of irregularities within the Sun's 11-year heartbeat.
It draws on dynamo effects in two layers of the Sun, one close to the surface and one deep within its convection zone.
Predictions from the model suggest that solar activity will fall by 60 per cent during the 2030s to conditions last seen during the 'mini ice age' that began in 1645, according to the results presented by Prof Valentina Zharkova at the National Astronomy Meeting in Llandudno.
The model predicts that the pair of waves become increasingly offset during Cycle 25, which peaks in 2022.
During Cycle 26, which covers the decade from 2030-2040, the two waves will become exactly out of synch and this will cause a significant reduction in solar activity.
'In cycle 26, the two waves exactly mirror each other – peaking at the same time but in opposite hemispheres of the Sun,' said Zharkova.
'Their interaction will be disruptive, or they will nearly cancel each other.
'We predict that this will lead to the properties of a 'Maunder minimum''
'Effectively, when the waves are approximately in phase, they can show strong interaction, or resonance, and we have strong solar activity.
'When they are out of phase, we have solar minimums.
'When there is full phase separation, we have the conditions last seen during the Maunder minimum, 370 years ago.'

THE MAUNDER MINIMUM

The Maunder Minimum (also known as the prolonged sunspot minimum) is the name used for the period starting in about 1645 and continuing to about 1715 when sunspots became exceedingly rare, as noted by solar observers of the time.
It caused London's River Thames to freeze over, and 'frost fairs' became popular.

This period of solar inactivity also corresponds to a climatic period called the 'Little Ice Age' when rivers that are normally ice-free froze and snow fields remained year-round at lower altitudes.
There is evidence that the Sun has had similar periods of inactivity in the more distant past, Nasa says.
The connection between solar activity and terrestrial climate is an area of on-going research.
Some scientists hypothesize that the dense wood used in Stradivarius instruments was caused by slow tree growth during the cooler period.
Instrument maker Antonio Stradivari was born a year before the start of the Maunder Minimum.

It is 172 years since a scientist first spotted that the Sun's activity varies over a cycle lasting around 10 to 12 years.
But every cycle is a little different and none of the models of causes to date have fully explained fluctuations.

Many solar physicists have put the cause of the solar cycle down to a dynamo caused by convecting fluid deep within the Sun.
Now, Zharkova and her colleagues have found that adding a second dynamo, close to the surface, completes the picture with surprising accuracy.
'We found magnetic wave components appearing in pairs, originating in two different layers in the Sun's interior,' she said.
'They both have a frequency of approximately 11 years, although this frequency is slightly different, and they are offset in time.
'Over the cycle, the waves fluctuate between the northern and southern hemispheres of the Sun. Combining both waves together and comparing to real data for the current solar cycle, we found that our predictions showed an accuracy of 97%,' said Zharkova.

Zharkova and her colleagues derived their model using a technique called 'principal component analysis' of the magnetic field observations from the Wilcox Solar Observatory in California.
They examined three solar cycles-worth of magnetic field activity, covering the period from 1976-2008.
In addition, they compared their predictions to average sunspot numbers, another strong marker of solar activity.
All the predictions and observations were closely matched.
