The Stanley Cup playoffs are here.

The Stanley Cup playoffs have begun. It is the time when you see the best hockey played. Contrary to opinions held in some areas, the playoffs are a different season, played differently. Nowhere is this truer than in Washington DC, home of the Washington Capitols.

During the regular season, teams try to score goals and prevent opponents from doing

the same. During the playoffs teams try to avoid making mistakes and score when the opposition makes a mistake. Goaltenders are the heroes.

The best example of these truisms is the Washington Capitols who have never won the Stanley Cup even though they have a good record during the regular season. In a funny article (funny if you are not a Caps fan), the Author goes as far as writing a form letter on how to report the Caps latest ouster from the playoffs.

What will happen this year? The Caps had the best record of all the teams in the NHL. They have a hot goalie. How hot? He recorded a shutout last night against the Flyers. We Caps fans are not fooled. We know what is coming, though we can not see how.

Did Ovetchkin  get lucky and score? No. Why should he have done so? The Caps scored a goal on a redirected shot for their first goal. Then, they scored their second goal on a Flyers mistake of coughing up the puck mid-ice.

Will this be the year?
