Much is made of the Cowboys loss to the Giants. Why did it happen? Will the Cowboys activate Romo and bench Prescott?
There are three more games left in the regular schedule and the Cowboys have the best record in the NFC: 11-2, followed by the Giants at 9-4. The Cowboys play Tampa Bay next then Detroit. Both are home games. If the Cowboys win both then they will be the winners of the NFC East even if the Giants win all their remaining 3. The Cowboys are favored against TB But if they lose against Detroit then they must beat the Eagles in Philly - never easy, especially if it is cold. The Lions are leading their division by one game but their next two opponents are the Giants and then Dallas. The Vikings and Green Bay are two games behind Detroit. If Dallas beats Tampa Bay and the Giants lose to Detroit then the Giants have to make it as a wild card.
So, the Cowboys can be regarded as favorites to win the NFC East.
I believe that the Giants are the next best team in the NFC and that either they or the Cowboys will be in the Super Bowl against New England.
Now then what happened in the last game? First and foremost, the Giants were really playing well. They defeated the Cowboys blocking schemes so the running game was limping. Not only were the Giants defeating the blocking schemes but were pass rushing very well. Prescott was hurried in his throws. Then Dez Bryant let two balls thrown to him fall into the hands of the Giants and when he caught a pass he lost it on a fumble.
The Cowboys defense did really well and the Giants won on a long pass play. Finally, the Cowboys coaching staff was unable to make changes to counter the Giants pass rush.
I have no doubt that the Giants and Cowboys will meet again in the playoffs. As for benching Prescott, forget it. He does what Management asks him to do, so it is up to the coaches to develop a winning strategy. Tony Romo? He should retire to prevent serious injury. He has done his part.
