Easter Sunday: the anchor of Western Civilization.

It is the pivotal day of Christianity. The Apostle Paul wrote that if the resurrection did not happen then he and his fellow believers were the biggest fools. Why?

The very basis of Christianity is this: Man is unable to save himself from the consequences of disobeying God and ,therefore, needs a perfect sacrifice to atone for this inability. The perfect sacrifice is Jesus the Christ after whom no more blood sacrifice is necessary.

The mission of Jesus is to die on the cross. That is the sacrifice. Along the way to the cross Jesus taught those who followed him and performed miracles. The miracles were God's identifier for his Prophet. There  were other Prophets before Jesus and they, too, performed miracles. Jesus, performed the greatest miracle: he came back from death three days after he died. This identified Jesus as the Meshiak; the Son of God, God himself.

These events were recorded in the four Gospels. The four Gospels are not identical, but they record the same things. Think of the four Gospels as four cameras recording the events. The most pivotal event recorded is resurrection morning. Detractors of Christianity claim that  the Gospels are contradictory, but they are not. People did not have wrist watches then so time is shown as before dawn, just after dawn after sun up and early morning. There were also a lot of movement of the followers of Jesus; mostly the women who were not trained in precision. To accept the reality of the sacrifice takes faith: for those who have it the proof is clear (and in fact no proof is necessary), for those without faith no proof is sufficient.

One central fact is clear: the tomb was empty, because Jesus was alive again. Mission accomplished.
