The ultimate treatment of heart failure is a heart transplant. In most heart failure the heart muscle becomes too weak to pump the blood and the patient dies from kidney failure. Since transplantable hearts are not always available, a procedure was developed where a device is implanted to assist the Left Ventricle to pump the blood.
SURPRISE! Some of the patients recovered so they no longer needed the transplant.
